ABSTRACT

Workshops are frequently used in human-computer interaction research, in a diverse range of research projects. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has made this research activity difficult to conduct since they often involve group work, physical interaction with tangibles and/or bodily activity. Motivated by this, the authors conducted a review of papers from the International Conference on Tangible, Embedded and Embodied Interaction (TEI) to develop a better understanding of workshops as a research method in TEI. The meta-review led to the development of a preliminary classification for workshops in research. Four categories of workshops were identified: Design development, Evaluation, Exploration, and Implementation. This work is intended to spark discussion and further research around the value and the challenges of conducting research workshops.

ABSTRACT

The aim of the study is to create a dashboard framework to monitor the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic based on quantitative and qualitative data processing. The theoretical part propounds the basic assumptions underlying the concept of the dashboard framework. The paper presents the most important functions of the dashboard framework and examples of its adoption. The limitations related to the dashboard framework development are also indicated. As part of empirical research, an original model of the Dash-Cov framework was designed, enabling the acquisition and processing of quantitative and qualitative data on the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The developed model was pre-validated. Over 25,000 records and around 100,000 tweets were analyzed. The adopted research methods included statistical analysis and text analysis methods, in particular the sentiment analysis and the topic modeling. © 2022 IEEE Computer Society. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is widely spread, not only multi-sectoral, but also across many fields, especially in socio-economic life and institutions of the communities. The purpose of this paper is to explain the importance of building a spirit of social entrepreneurship and the institutional environment to accelerate economic recovery and growth caused by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The research method used a mixed methods research design. Qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis was used through exploratory and explanatory designs. The main data source is primary data obtained through a survey of social entrepreneurship actors in various regions in Indonesia. The main contribution is to provide a conceptual model that integrates the spirit of social entrepreneurship (SSE) into new institutional economic theory (NIE). The results of the study concluded that the role of social entrepreneurship (SE) and the institutional environment has not been optimized to support economic growth. Hence, there is a need for a spirit and existing institutional environment quality to encourage sustainable economic growth. Without a strong spirit and encouragement from the quality of the institutional environment which has political authority, the SE will be difficult to become a formal and strong entrepreneurial and cultural economic movement. © 2022 WITPress. ABSTRACT

Due to the risk of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, as well as due to limited opportunities for intimate and sexual contact, primarily among singles and couples who live separately, there arises an increased interest in various forms of sexual interaction mediated by technology, including sexting. Previous research on this topic were mostly conducted on convenient samples and focused on the first phases of the isolation measures. This research relies on the assumption that consensual sexting can serve young people as a kind of substitute for real intimate contact during a period marked by restrictions due to the pandemic, given that young people less often live with intimate partners, have a more pronounced desire for sexual exploration, and more often have short-term relationships. The first goal of this research is to understand whether the partner relationship plays a role in the connection between the self-assessed change in the need for sexual relations and the frequency of sexting during the pandemic. The second goal is to analyze the role of the change in the need for sexual relations in the connection between the frequency of sexting and the number of sexual partners since the beginning of the pandemic. The data was collected at the beginning of February 2021 on a random sample of young people aged 18 to 25 (N=607), selected from a national Internet panel. The analysis was conducted on a sub-sample of singles and couples living separately (N=500). By controlling the socio-demographic, psycho-social and sexual characteristics of the respondents, the assumed moderating roles of the partner relationship and changes in the need for sexual relationships were not determined in the analyzes of the frequency of sexting. The obtained results do not support the assumption that sexting was a substitute for real intimate contact during the period of the coronavirus pandemic. © 2022, Croatian Sociological Association. ABSTRACT

The rapid development of technology and ease of information today greatly affects all aspects of life. During the COVID-19 pandemic, technology played an important role in maintaining community activities continued smoothly despite being hampered by several health policies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many phenomena develop with new technologies in several fields, one in the economic field is e-commerce. E-commerce is a site that makes it easier for buyers to get the goods desired by the community, as well as the various interesting promos that are the attractiveness of the community to constantly shop in e-commerce so that the community applies consumptive behavior. So that the problem that will be discussed in this study is the development of e-commerce technology that affects people's behavior in shopping which tends to be consumptive and hedonic. The purpose of this study is to determine the impact or effect of the use of e-commerce on consumptive behavior during the pandemic period and provide an overview of the potential regarding e-commerce in the future. This research method is quantitative. The data collection technique used for this study is to use a questionnaire. Thus, this research is expected to minimize the negative impacts that can be caused by the increasing consumptive behavior of society during the pandemic and provide wise e-commerce use. The results of this study can be seen from calculations using a formula that respondents tend to be more extravagant during the pandemic and for future potential, respondents will certainly enjoy the convenience provided by e-commerce. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

E-commerce shows steady growth in the marketplace since it makes the lives of people easier. Today's generation is more inclined toward convenience in purchasing goods. The COVID-19 shut down many food establishments across the Philippines, resulting in an online bakeries boom. Pastries are one of the most sought goods online, especially with the pandemic surge where physical stores are seldomly open. E-commerce with a recommender system is the trend that helps customers choose products, which helps in decision-making on what to purchase. On the other hand, a mobile application counterpart could increase brand recognition and customer engagement as it is now the most effective, direct, and personalized way to deliver product information. In this study, the descriptive research method was used, with a questionnaire using the functionality, usability, reliability, performance and supportability (FURPS) serving as the instrument for testing the acceptability. The overall quality of the system was given an acceptable rating with a weighted mean of 4.07, indicating that the system's functions were well integrated, that navigation was simple, performed consistently, and that the system was accessible regardless of device. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

This paper presents the second part of the research conducted at Riga Technical University aimed to explore the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Generation X (Gen X) and Generation Y (Gen Y) consumer behavior and purchasing priorities. While the changes in consumer behavior have already been analyzed and published earlier [1], the changes in purchasing priorities which might have caused changes in consumer behavior, are going to be studied in this work. The choice of these two generations is not made randomly;on the contrary, it was an intentional selection among other consumers, as they make a very active and prominent part of buyers all over the world. The research methods used are comparative descriptive analysis, Chi-square test and qualitative content analysis of data collected in an electronic survey of respondents from Asia, Europe, and America. The findings show that statistically significant differences between the changes in purchasing priorities of both generations are found for: meat and dairy products, fruit & vegetables, non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks, clothes & shoes, body care & cosmetics, entertainment (pay TV services, computer games, etc.) and transport. Altogether, purchasing priorities of Gen X consumers were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic less than Gen Y consumers. Copyright 2022. © by the International Institute of Informatics and Systemics. ABSTRACT

The aim of this research was to determine which coping strategies family-run farms adopted during the COVID-19 pandemic and whether they showed resilience to the challenges posed by the market. Data were collected using the method of semi-structured interviews on a deliberate sample of family-run farms, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The results reveal the COVID-19 crisis and new regulations forced farmers to change their modes of operation. The results also showed that they achieved resilience by maintai-ning market competitiveness through diversification and multifunctionality. The limitations of this research include a small and deliberate sample, so the results do not allow for a wider generalization. However, generalization is valid at the analytical level at which a set of strategies needed by the family-run farms to remain resilient during a pandemic have been recorded. Additional contribution of this research is the rarely explored farmers' perspective, as well as the relevance of examining the changes in family-run farms' activities during the pandemic, which can serve as a model of building family farms' resilience in general. © 2022, Croatian Sociological Association. ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to find out the relationship between the tourism products offered, the tourism services offered and the promotional activities offered whether directly or indirectly affect the interest of tourists to visit during the Pandemic through product pricing strategies. In this study, the only variables that exist are marketing activities of tourism services or services such as products offered, tourist services offered and promotional activities, which only focus on explaining the effect of these three variables on tourist interest in visiting tourist attractions during a pandemic, while the variable intervening marketing activities or the marketing mix of product pricing strategies that are the connecting variables that affect tourist interest in visiting tourist attractions during a pandemic. The research method used in this research is descriptive quantitative research method using path analysis. In this study, the independent variables are marketing activities or marketing mix such as: tourism services such as, products offered, tourism services offered and promotional activities to be carried out, while for the intervening variable is the marketing activity variable, namely the product pricing strategy and the dependent variable is the interest of tourists visiting during a pandemic using SPSS 20. Partially, only the variables of promotional activities carried out have a positive and significant effect on the variableproduct pricing strategies during a pandemic as well as variables of tourist interest in visiting during a pandemic. Meanwhile, simultaneously, the variables of the products offered, the tourism services offered and the promotional activities that will be carried out have a positive and significant effect on the variable of tourist interest in visiting during the pandemic through the variable pricing strategy of the product during the pandemic as an intervening variable. Through the results of research, it has been stated that the products and services offered through online marketing during the pandemic have not been able to increase the interest of tourists to visit tourist attractions during the COVID-19 pandemic, while the owners of tourist attractions must carry out vigorous promotional activities so that tourists are interested in visiting. Tourist attractions, thus influencing the pricing strategy that will be applied to tourism products and services. © 2022 Editura Universitatii din Oradea. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Values are one of the most important consumer characters in determining the outcome of consumer decisions. It is no coincidence that a number of value system research methods have been adapted by Consumer Behaviour in order to gain a more nuanced understanding of the intrinsic context of consumer decision-making. The issue of money and the use of money has been particularly heightened during the pandemic. A values-based approach to consumer behaviour argues that a consumer's basic human values determine his or her attitude towards a product or service. In our research, we have sought to answer the question of which consumer segments can be characterised by individual value orientation and its imprint on money management. The changes caused by the pandemic and the transformation of consumer preference systems make it particularly justified to analyse the nuances of consumer decisions and, within them, the perception of money. In the framework of their primary research, we carried out quantitative data collection through a standardised online questionnaire survey. As a result of the research, distinct consumer segments were characterised, which may provide a good basis for service providers wishing to reposition their products and services after the pandemic. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

During the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been an increase in communication through social media. However, this is not accompanied by the level of citizen discipline where the high spread of false issues causes problems in the social and political fields. This study aims to look at the views of the community during the COVID-19 pandemic regarding Social and Political. The research method uses Latent Dirichlet Allocation Analysis to extract topic cluster of political and social during COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. The results of this study indicate a public view that considers the COVID-19 pandemic to be a tool, interest, or political game, and social concerns have increased considerably during the COVID-19 pandemic. During COVID-19, the increase in public communication through social media has become a driving force for other social activities that can ease the burden on the community. Besides that, the community seems wise enough to choose which news is fake and what is true. © 2022 IEEE.
